Week 28

Dear parents and students,
Despite the weather being wet and quite a bit colder this week, our International Week presentations went very well, and I am proud of the efforts of everyone in Grade 4. Thank you to all parents who were able to attend. Your presence inspires the children to do their best, and I'm sure you were impressed by their efforts. Your questions helped to reinforce what the students have learned about New Zealand, and everybody was able to accurately answer questions that were relevant to their presentations. The varying presentation styles and multimedia format were designed and created by the children, and the research done was all their own. It was a very successful learning experience for all. For those who couldn't make it, there is a slideshow posted at the bottom of this post. You can also click on the slideshow to open the Picasa photo album, and browse through the pictures at our leisure.
In addition to the presentations, we managed to squeeze in our regular Math lessons. This week, we have been reviewing Customary Units of Measurement. Although most of us are more comfortable with metric measurements, it is important to understand and identify customary units, and be able to use them when necessary. When we return form the break, we will be turning our focus to the metric system.
In our Reading and Writing workshop, we have finished reading Alice in Wonderland. After the break, we will spend a few more lessons discussion the book and preparing a group-devised book report. This will include some works of art – created as part of our art classes – which will pay tribute to the classic story on its 150th anniversary.
I hope you all enjoy Spring Break, and I'll see you all on Monday, 6th April.
