Dear parents and students,
As always, we
have been extremely busy in Grade 4.
Our
experience with Alice in Wonderland
is becoming “curiouser and curiouser,” as we venture further into the book. We
have been combining vocabulary lessons with comprehension, and learning a great
deal of new words and expressions, along with puns, similes, and more
interesting adjectives. Some of the ideas presented during our discussions have
been most insightful, as we learn to enjoy and appreciate the many different
possible interpretations of the story.
We finished
another Math topic this week, with the topic test being held on Thursday. While
Topic 14 was all about perimeter and area of plane shapes, Topic 15 is
dedicated to volume of solid shapes and the various perspectives of solids. We
began the topic by creating our own 3D models of some of the more regular solid
shapes. This is a short topic, and the Topic Test will take place next Friday.
As mentioned
last week, the Science will take place on Thursday, 23rd April. Most
teams have submitted a proposal for the Science Fair, but a few are still
trying to find a suitable topic. Parents, your assistance in the Science Fair
projects would be greatly appreciated, if you are able to offer your support.
Please refer to the message to parents in the Science Fair workbook, which
describes how you can become involved.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions.
Our Social
Studies classes have been dedicated to our preparations for International Week. As you know, Grade 4
will be presenting New Zealand to the other classes. While we are working on
presentation skills and preparations in class, much of the research needs to be
done at home. I hope that parents can help your children with their
preparations, and that many of you are able to come in and visit during the
presentations on the mornings of Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24.
As you are
also aware, Spirit Week will be held
from next Monday, 16th March – Friday 20th March. Monday
will be Crazy Hair Day, which is sure
to set a bright and cheerful tone to the rest of the week. Race Day takes place on the Wednesday during Spirit Week (18th
March). All parents are welcome to attend.
Spring break
follows International week, from Thursday, 26th March – Sunday, 4th
April.
Have a great
weekend, and see you all again on Monday (with crazy hair!)
