Thanks, Grade 4!

Dear parents and students,

It's hard to believe the school year is over, but even as I write this, many of you are heading to airports to begin your summer vacation.

Just a reminder that there are no summer assignments, but please check the links in the post below this one for recommended books for summer reading.  You can also brush up on your skills by clicking on many of the links on this blog. Math, Science, Language Arts... there are links for everybody.

I have also included links below for the Alice in Wonderland movies.  Part 1 is Alice's Advntures in Wonderland, and part 2 is Through the Looking Glass, which is the movie we didn't finish watching.

Enjoy!

Summer Reading Lists

There are no assignments set for the summer, but I highly recommend that you keep up with your reading. Below I have posted a number of links that might help you find some suitable books to read during the summer. You will notice that I have included both Grade 4 and Grade 5 levels. You should aim to find books to read that are enjoyable, a little challenging, but not too difficult or too easy.

Remember our slogan for Book Week - A book is a door to another world. Enjoy!

Week 38

Dear parents and students,
The last few weeks seem to have flown by, and now we find ourselves with just one shortened week ahead of us before the end of the term. Despite the excitement of the summer holidays ahead, we have managed to achieve a great deal during the week.
We have spent this week in Math reviewing the entire year’s curriculum.  As we found that some of us needed a little time to review specific areas, we have postponed the benchmark test until Monday, with the final cumulative test to take place on Tuesday.  This has allowed us to reflect on what we have learned throughout the year, and to pay attention to any areas in which we think we need to improve.
Our Reading story for the week was Skylark, the sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall. The story tells of the conditions that pioneers of the American Midwest had to endure back in the days of settlement.  It was pleasing to observe that, as we have previously studied this topic in Social Studies, we were able to appreciate many more aspects of the story, as we have a greater understanding of the geography and the challenges of those times.
The fun has continued in Science, as we have been combining our theoretical studies with experimentation, as we learn about force, motion, and simple machines. We will continue our explorations during the final lessons of next week.
As this will be the final standard Grade 4 newsblog for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for your support throughout the year. Support at home is an important part of a child’s education, and I greatly appreciate the efforts you have made to help, assist and encourage your children, and also for the open communication we have maintained throughout the year. I would also like to thank all students for the efforts you have made throughout the year. There have been fun times and challenging times, but we have all made progress, and are ready for Grade 5. Congratulations!
As you know, next Thursday, our last day of school, will be a half-day. Please be aware of bus and pick-up times.

Student of the Week, Week 38

Congratulations to Taichi!
Awarded for participation and focus.  As we edge closer to the summer holidays, everyone is becoming very excited and easily distracted.  Taichi has been trying hard to maintain focus and get his work done. He has also been encouraging his classmates to do the same, so that we can finish our year on a high note.  Thanks for your efforts, Taichi!
