Week 10

Dear parents and students,
It has been a short and hectic week, but it has been a productive and fun-filled one, too.
In the Reading and Writing Workshop, we spent some time reading and solving mysteries, and then we got into the spirit of Halloween by writing a very spooky journal entry. We also finished Unit 2 of English grammar; a unit checkup has been assigned for homework over the break.
We also finished another topic in Math, and held the Topic 5 test last Tuesday, allowing us an extra day to become familiar with Topic 6, which is dedicated to algebra. We were all very relieved to find that algebra isn’t quite as scary or confusing as people make out, and in fact, we have been learning algebra all along in our word problems! As Topic 6 is quite a short one, we will be having a topic test next Friday.
On Wednesday, we had our Food Web presentations in which we were treated to some very informative displays and presentations. Everyone should be very proud, as presenting in front of a group of people can be very scary! We will be finishing Chapter 6 of the Science text on Wednesday, with a Chapter Test on Thursday.
Not quite as scary as presentations were our Halloween activities. Thank you to all the parents who came along. You have seen how much work your children put into the activities, and your presence makes it all even more rewarding.
As you know, tomorrow marks the beginning of a four-day weekend for all HIS students. I hope you all enjoy the long break, and if you are tavelling, please be safe. I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday.

Have a wonderful weekend!
