Dear parents and students,
Much of everyone’s attention this week has been
focused on Mothers’ Day and the upcoming Iowa tests. I hope all mothers enjoy a
special day on Sunday, and for all students, make sure that after you spoil
your mother all weekend, you manage to get to bed early on Sunday night!
We have spent some time each day during the past
week preparing for the Iowa tests. We have had practice tests each day, and we
also took a special three-minute test that I hope has taught everyone to read
directions carefully. The best preparation between now and Monday is to get
plenty of rest, a good night’s sleep, and a nutritious breakfast each day. Please note that no homework will be assigned during the week of Iowa testing.
In other lessons, we have completed yet another
Maths topic, and had our Topic 17 test on graphs and data collecting on
Thursday. The results were quite pleasing, especially considering that it is
the first topic we have covered in some time that introduces a lot of new
material. Please note that we are now beginning Topic 19, and skipping Topic 18, which we will do at a later date. The reason for this is that Topic 19 is a little less taxing than Topic 18. With the Iowa tests taking place next week, it will be a little less stressful if we skip ahead to Topic 19.
In our Reading and Writing Workshops, we have been
paying attention to capitalization and punctuation, along with reviewing what
we have been studying recently, with a particular focus on adjectives,
comparatives, and superlatives.
In Social Studies, we have been examining how
cities are born and continue to grow, comparing cities of colonial America to
newer cities closer to home, and in Art, we have continued our study of
one-point perspective drawing.
Please find the schedule for next week’s Iowa
testing attached below this post. Get
some rest, and to all the mothers: Happy Mothers’ Day!
