Week 30

First of all, I would like to thank all parents for making the time to come in and see me this week. It has been very encouraging to find that we are all on the same page in regard to the wellbeing and the education of your children, and it is always very insightful and helpful to gain one another’s perspectives of what is going on your children’s lives at school and at home.
During class hours, we have had another very busy week. We have been dedicating more time to our Reading Circles. I have been very pleased with how honestly and accurately everyone has been able to assess his or her own efforts and abilities. We will continue this process the week after next, with everyone assuming a new task within each group. Next week, we will be focusing on our Opinion essays, finishing the week with an oral presentation of what we have written.
In Maths, we have closed yet another Topic, and had our Topic 16 test today. Next Monday and Tuesday, we will be having a cumulative test, and a benchmark test. The cumulative test is to see how much we have remembered since the beginning of the year, and the benchmark test will also give an indication of how we are faring, as well as providing a little practice ahead of the Iowa tests, which will take place in a few weeks from now.
As you are all well aware, the Science Fair is to take place next Thursday, 23rd April. We have spent considerable time in class working on our projects, but much of the work has also been taking place at home. This weekend is the last available for working on the presentations. Parents, please support your children by helping them with any printing they may need to have done during the weekend.  We will use Monday’s Science lesson to add final touches to our presentations. On Wednesday, we will present to one another in class, then Thursday is the big day! For those parents who are able to attend on Thursday morning, I look forward to seeing you!
In addition to our busy schedule, we also enjoyed Pottery Day on Wednesday. Pictures of the workshop have been provided in a slideshow posted below. The finished products are expected to be available just before Mothers’ Day.
We have also been busy raising money for our Water for Everyone fund, as you are aware.  This week’s coin donation has been very successful. Next week, we have a bake sale, in which baked goodies will be donated and sold. Students may buy cookies and muffins during recess (with parents’ permission, of course!)
The following week, we will hold a bazaar on Wednesday afternoon. More details will be given soon. Please check the posters below for details regarding the Bake Sale and the Science Fair.
