Week 29

Dear parents and students,
I hope you all enjoyed the Spring Break. We have returned to a full week of classes, and after the break, it feels that we have been busier than ever.
We began the week with our Reading Circles. We have begun a new structure in which students are beginning to assess their own reading and comprehension. Although this can seem to be a bit tricky at first, we will begin to find that we can accurately assess our comprehension levels both during and after our Reading Circles sessions. This will in turn help with our reading development, and keep our progress on track.
We have spent the best part of this week’s Maths lessons focused on the metric system. This has proven to be far easier to comprehend and manipulate than the customary units of measurement, and we have progressed rapidly through these lessons. We will have a Topic Test next Friday, 17th April.
In Social Studies, we have been learning about international trade, and the importance of trading ports, while in Science, we have been busily preparing our Science Fair projects.
In addition to our regular program next week, we will have a few extra activities taking place. HIS is running a fundraiser named “Water for Everyone”. Please refer to the poster posted below.  Next week, we will be raising money by donating coins. If you can spare any change, consider adding it to our water drops, which will be then forwarded to water.org to help those in need of water.
The following week, April 20-24, we will be running a bake sale. Grade 4 may use the science room ovens to bake some goodies, but if anyone at home would like to bake and donate, we will be more than happy to sell your goodies on your behalf.
Please watch this space for more updates regarding the Water for Everyone fundraiser.
As you are all aware, the parent/teacher interviews are scheduled for next week. I look forward to seeing you all. Please note, that there will be NO CLUBS on Wednesday, 15th April.
The 15th April is also worth noting for it is Pottery Day. The good people from Ying-ge will be coming down to offer their services in teaching us how to make our own pottery masterpieces. Students, please do NOT wear your best shoes on Wednesday!
Please check the schedule and posters below for more information of upcoming events.
