First
of all, I'd like to thank all parents who took time out of your busy
schedules to come in to see me and discuss the progress of your
child. It was good to meet those of you whom I hadn't met before, and
it was equally as pleasant to catch up with those of you whom I
already know. Communication is paramount to the successful learning
and development of the children, so to spend time with each of you
has been most beneficial, and will serve well in ensuring that every
child will continue to progress in the best way possible.
In
the classroom, we have been spending considerable time working on our
next major writing assignment. As I discussed with many of you during
the interviews, we are spending a lot of time in planning our
stories, and applying many of the concepts that we have learned from
previous assignments, and also from the stories we have been reading
in our Reading and Writing workshops. Most of us have nearly
completed our first drafts, and we will be spending most of next week
revising our work, adding details, improving our structure, and
injecting our own voice into our stories. Everyone is quite keen to
share their first drafts with you at home. I hope that parents can
find some time to listen to, or to read what your child has written
so far. Your feedback will be very useful when we revise our stories
next week.
In
Maths, we have been reviewing different ways to multiply 2-digit
numbers and multiples of ten. We will have a topic test on Wednesday,
before spending the next topic reviewing the various methods of
division.
We
have been enjoying the past few lessons in Science, in which we have
been investigating the various methods in which different species
adapt to their respective habitats in order to survive. We will be
concluding this unit with a minor test on Tuesday, before returning
to Social Studies for the following few weeks.
Christmas
is fast approaching, and Grade 4 has decided to try to write a skit
to perform for our performance on December 12th. this is
quite a challenging task, so parents, if your child wishes to discuss
ideas over the weekend, I hope that you can show your support by
spending a little time helping out with ideas.
As
you are aware, next Wednesday, 19th November, we will hold
our annual Fun Day, beginning at 1:30pm at the athletics track behind
the school. All parents are welcome to attend. I hope to see you
there!
