Dear parents and students,
I hope you all enjoyed the long
weekend last week. We have had another shortened week, but as usual, we have
been very busy and productive.
After enjoying Roald Dahl’s Danny the Champion of the World before
the break, we have returned our attention to the Reading Anthology, and this week
we have been reading Tomas and the
Library Lady. While reading this, we have been paying particular attention
to language and style, as we have also begun to plan our own narrative stories,
and we will be trying to improve our written expression as we go.
We finished yet another topic in
Maths this week, culminating in a test today. Results will be available on
Monday.
Or Science test was postponed
until Monday, so everyone has a few extra days to prepare for the Chapter 6
test. I am confident that everyone will do well in this test, as we have spent
quite some time investigating matter and energy flow within an ecosystem.
With Monday’s test out of the
way, we will spend some time investigating how different species adapt to
survive in our changing world. We will also do some study of fossils before
beginning our next unit in Social Studies, the following week.
Parents, while next week will be
a ‘regular’ week in the classroom, but I am looking forward to seeing you all
on Tuesday or Wednesday evening. A Pre-conference form was sent home with your
child during the week. Thank you to all who have returned the form. For those
of you who haven’t, please return it on Monday if you have any particular
questions or concerns that you would like addressed at the interviews.
In just under two weeks’ time, on
Thursday, November 27th, we will be celebrating American
Thanksgiving Day at HIS. For those of you who have ben to previous
celebrations, you will remember what a great time we have each year. For those
of you who haven’t been before, I hope you ill be able to find the time to join
us for this special event. As we have done for the past few years, a form has
been sent home to parents to help prepare for the Thanksgiving lunch. Please
complete the form and return it as soon as possible, so that we can make
adjustments if too many people want to bring the same thing. If you have any
questions or concerns regarding the lunch, and what to bring, please don’t
hesitate to email me at this address, or contact the office.
Thanksgiving always proves to be
a great day, but we have yet another special event taking place the week
before, on Wednesday, 19th November.
In just under two weeks from now, w will hold our annual FUN DAY on
Wednesday afternoon, starting at 1:30pm at the athletics track behind the
school. Parents are encouraged to come along and join in the fun. I hope to see
you all there!
Posted below is an updated
slideshow of last week’s Halloween activities. Some pictures were posted last
week, but I have added the photos taken by Mr Harris. I hope you enjoy them!
Have a wonderful weekend!
