Dear parents and students,
We are approaching
the final week of the semester (Semester 2 begins on Monday, January 26th),
and we are as busy as ever in Grade 4.
We have continued
with our latest Reading and Writing Workshop project. As I’m sure you are now
aware, we are creating Book Promotions, which will be displayed in the library
during Literacy Week. The planning stages are complete, and we will be spending
part of our R&W Workshop time revising and detailing our work. Parents, if
you are able, please help your child by treating them to a trip to the
stationery store. We all want our Book Promotions to stand out when they are on
display in the library during Literacy Week!
We have also
been reading an intriguing story in our R&W Workshop. This week we focused
on making inferences and drawing conclusions. We also spent some time observing
what is sometimes referred to as writer’s
craft, that is, the way an author improves a story with language and
storytelling techniques and strategies.
In Maths, we
have completed Topic 10, with a review lesson today. We delayed the test by a
day, because some of us found mixed numbers
and improper fractions quite
challenging. Everyone has now assured me that we are ready to do the test on Monday.
Please make sure you revise the topic this weekend!
In Science,
we have been studying rocks. Who would have thought that a bunch of old rocks
could be so interesting? Next week, we will continue our studies, which will
include drawing a rock cycle in our notebooks.
This will lead on to learning about changes in the Earth’s surface,
which we will begin the following week.
See you all
on Monday!
